CRIME BLOTTER: Whole Foods Workers Arrested for Stealing Fresh Shrimp, Cash

GOWANUS — Two Whole Foods employees were arrested recently for two separate thefts at the high-end supermarket, according to police reports.

A 26-year-old cashier was arrested Feb. 10 after video surveillance revealed she had stolen $700 by stashing the cash in her apron while closing the register, according to a police report.

In a separate incident, a 28-year-old employee was arrested Feb. 9 after $75 in fresh shrimp was discovered in his backpack during a random bag check, according to a police report.

Other notable recent crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following, with details drawn from police reports:

► Two female thieves snatched $222 in clothes from the American Apparel on Flatbush Avenue near Park Place on Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. The stolen duds included a bodysuit, winter leggings, crop top, running shorts, dress and halter top.

► A 20-year-old woman's co-worker punched her in the head and bit her finger on Ninth Street and Fifth Avenue on Feb. 13 at 8:25 p.m.

► A thief swiped a Taxi and Limousine Commission license from a car parked on Fourth Avenue and Fifth Street on Feb. 9. The car's 63-year-old owner left the license in a holder on the back of the driver's seat and returned the next morning to find the car door open and the license missing.

► A man punched a worker at a bodega near Fifth Avenue and Ninth Street on Feb. 5 at 10:30 p.m. The man, who had a small knife, said "This is my store" before hitting the worker in the face and damaging the store.

► A woman had her U.S. passport stolen from the front seat of a 2008 Lexus parked on 11th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues Feb. 6.

Overall, major crime in the 78th Precinct has dropped 26 percent this year compared to the same period in 2015, according to the most recent statistics from the NYPD. There were 104 major crimes reported between Jan. 1 and Feb. 14, 2016 and 76 major crimes during that period in 2015.
