CHELSEA — The Hudson River Park needs $2.7 million in additional funding for security cameras, dock repairs, new lighting and other infrastructure upgrades, officials said.
While Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed budget allocates $800,000 to the Hudson River Park Trust, which oversees the park, politicians including state Sen. Brad Hoylman and Assemblyman Richard Gottfried wrote a letter asking state leaders to provide an additional $2.7 million to the organization.
“Our parks are a precious resource that we must do our utmost to protect and preserve,” Hoylman said in a statement.
“The additional funds that my colleagues and I are calling for represent the bare minimum necessary in keeping Hudson River Park a safe and welcoming place for individuals and families across New York,” he added.
In addition to camera installation and dock repairs throughout the park, the funding would go toward fire-suppression systems, new LED bulbs in park lights and repairing pavement tiles, the politicians said.
Under the proposed budget, the state is going to “fall short” of the $10 million in funds the city has promised to provide for capital expenses this year, they added.
