BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — The owners of a new watering hole on Greene Avenue hope to create Bed-Stuy's “Cheers.”

Captain Dan’s Good Time Tavern opened at 497 Greene Ave. on the corner of Nostrand Avenue on Feb. 11, serving up a “mix of high-end cocktails and dive-bar” drinks, according to manager Carla Wolff.

The business is the latest venture from partner Rashid Johnson and the owners of East Wiliamsburg’s Anchored Inn, Adrienne French and Carmen Mello.

Captain Dan’s takes its name after Mello’s dog, Captain Dan Gordon Jr., the owner said.

With seating for about 40 people, the bar has an eclectic décor of wall-paper dotted with eyes and flamingoes, along with feather artwork collected by Mello over the years.

“It’s slightly Mexican, slightly neighborhood tavern meets birds. Lots of birds,” Wolff said, adding that she imagines it being the neighborhood's "Cheers."

Drinks range in price from $4 to $11, with cocktails like “Starman” and “Jeepster” named after David Bowie and T.Rex songs.

“We named all the drinks off of popular songs and artists that we love, because we’re all big music lovers here,” Wolff added.

Starting on March 11, Captain Dan’s Good Time Tavern will serve lunch and dinner with menu items under $15 inspired by southern cuisine.

Bar snacks include chicken-liver bacon balls and beet pickled eggs, along with appetizers like the “bacon-wrapped aloha dog” with pickled pineapple and fried onions.

A variety of sandwiches will also be available, including a hot sausage po’boy.

Owners added that brunch will be served on the weekends in upcoming months, and the bar plans to have outdoor seating.

“Everybody’s welcome here, it’s the bar for everyone,” Mello said.

Captain Dan’s Good Time Tavern is open Monday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 a.m.
