ASTORIA — The king is on the move.

Award-winning Middle Eastern food truck King of Falafel and Shawarma will be rolling to a new spot in coming weeks, leaving its corner on Broadway in Astoria where it has parked for more than a decade.

Owner Fares "Freddy" Zeideia said he decided to move the truck from its longtime location since he opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant last month at 30-15 Broadway, just a block from his street operation, that serves the same fare.

"We don't want to compete with each other," he said.

The truck will soon move to the Ditmars area, on 31st Street between 23rd Avenue and Ditmars Boulevard. An exact location will be announced soon on the company's Facebook page, he said.

"They need something out there," he said.

King of Falafel fans near Broadway will be able to get their usual dishes at the restaurant instead, he said.

Zeideia's truck operated for years on Broadway and 30th Street in front of the C-Town supermarket, drawing long lines at lunch time. He recently had to move it a block away because of construction at the C-Town, which is being turned into apartments.

He announced the plan to relocate to Ditmars on the truck's Facebook page Wednesday, adding that the change brings "bittersweet emotions."

"We are truly grateful to have had the opportunity to serve in the same location in front of C-town for almost 14 years!" the post reads.
