Woman Arrested for Breaking Into Park Slope Restaurant, Police Say

PARK SLOPE — A woman was arrested after breaking into the basement of a Seventh Avenue restaurant and rifling through coat pockets there, according to a police report.

Latifah Louis, 37, was arrested Feb. 5 at 11:15 p.m. after an employee discovered her in the basement of Cafe Steinhof on Seventh Avenue and 14th Street.

A review of the restaurant's video surveillance revealed Louis entering the basement then rifling through coat pockets there, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.

Louis was arraigned Feb. 6 on charges of burglary, attempted petit larceny and criminal trespassing. Her attorney could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Other notable recent crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following, with details drawn from police reports:

► A 54-year-old man was arrested on Warren Street and Third Avenue on Feb. 9 at 12:35 a.m. after a police officer spotted him with an illegal "gravity knife."

► Someone threw a pair of "Chinese stress balls" through the window of an apartment on St. Johns Place near Eighth Avenue on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.

► A $400 Trek bike was stolen from outside the Citibank on Seventh Avenue and President Street while the bike's owner was inside the bank Feb. 7 at 5:20 p.m.

► A 35-year-old man's bike was stolen while he was watching football at a friend's house sometime between 3:45 and 10:50 p.m. on Feb. 7 near Sterling Place and Flatbush Avenue.

► A 2000 Dodge Caravan was stolen from near St. Marks and Vanderbilt avenues between noon and 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 4.

Overall in the 78th Precinct major crimes have dropped 30 percent so far this year compared with the same period in 2015, according to the latest NYPD statistics.
