LONGWOOD — An elderly man was punched in the face and knocked unconscious in The Bronx on Saturday after bumping into his attacker with his shopping cart, police said.

The assailant was checking out in the Fine Fare Supermarket at 1065 E. 163rd St. around 12:30 p.m. when his 71-year-old victim got in line as well and said he accidentally hit him with his cart, according to the NYPD.

The attacker then started arguing with the victim and punched him in the face, which knocked him out, police said.

The victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition, while his assailant fled on foot, police said.

Officers described the puncher as a man in his 30s who weighs between 170 and 180 pounds and was wearing a blue Yankees jacket, a blue Yankees hat with a light-colored bill and a gray hooded sweatshirt.
