RIKERS ISLAND — A Correction Officer has been arrested on rape and contraband charges, just a few days after her colleague was busted for trying to smuggle synthetic marijuana into Rikers Island, officials said.

Nicole Bartley, 30, was heading into the jail around 5 a.m. on Saturday when the Department of Investigation's drug-sniffing dog Gunner singled her out, according to the agency.

Bartley did not have any contraband on her but had about 70 grams of marijuana in her home that she had intended to smuggle into the jail for an inmate who she had a sexual relationship with, officials said.

Under New York State law, inmates cannot consent to sexual relationships inside of Rikers Island, according to the DOI.

"This case involving sex for drugs puts on full display the dangers of corruption in our city’s jails and the connection between the drugs, inappropriate relationships and violence that pervade the system," DOI Commissioner Mark Peters said in a statement.

The arrest comes less than a week after Correction Officer Mohammed Sufian, 25, was busted for trying to smuggle 61.6 grams of K2 into the jail. He was stopped by Gunner as well.

Bartley has worked for the Department of Correction since May 2014 and will be suspended as a result of her arrest, according to the DOI.

She has been charged with rape, sexual misconduct and promoting prison contraband, and could face up to four years in prison if convicted on the rape charge, officials said.

Bartley was arraigned on Sunday, and her bail was set at $1,000, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

"I, Nicole, being a fool had my guard down to this man I thought [I] was falling in love with," she said, according to the criminal complaint.

"I was in love with him," she continued. "He used me, and he played me for a fool."

She acknowledged having sex with the inmate in late January but said it did not last very long.

"It was in the closet in the morning when everyone else was locked in," she said, according to the criminal complaint. "It only lasted five minutes."
