NEW YORK CITY — Studying the arts can produce more than a pretty picture or song; it can also help teach your child how to work with others and express themselves.

In a city known for its vibrant arts and music scene, New York offers a wide array of summer camps for your child to tap into their creativity.

Outside of a creative studio environment, "these kids might not ever interact with each other," Replay Music Studios owner John Rubin said. "But in the studio, with a common goal, they treat each other as peers and learn from one another."

Rubin adds that acquainting oneself with the arts outside of a traditional classroom environment gives kids more autonomy in the creative process, which yields results that can be applied away from the studio.

"Even though teachers are in the room to provide guidance and supplies, the direction...is determined by the kids," Rubin said. "And so they're putting themselves out there, opening their minds to new ideas, and increasing their confidence...it's a great thing to see."

To help make finding these environments a bit easier, DNAinfo New York has offered up several visual and performance art camps throughout the city where your child can develop their creativity this summer:
