LONG ISLAND CITY — Visitors to the courtyard at MoMA PS1 this summer will be greeted by a bright tapestry of ropes woven overhead.

An intricate web of different colored ropes will be suspended from MoMA PS1's outdoor courtyard beginning this summer, along with a shallow wading pool that will be installed in the back where guests can cool off during the warmer months, according to the museum.

"The woven cloud will provide shade to the visitors below while recasting the courtyard in a bright colored web," according to an announcement released by the museum.

The installation was created by Mexico City-based Escobedo Soliz Studio — this year's winner of MoMA PS1's annual Young Architects Program.

The rope that makes up the tapestry — titled "Weaving the Courtyard" — will be recycled at the end of the summer, according to the museum.

This is the 17th year that MoMA PS1 has hosted the Young Architects Program, which challenges contestants to create environmentally friendly designs that provide shade, seating and water.

The courtyard where the installations are displayed is home to the museum's popular Warm Up outdoor summer concert series.

Winning installations in previous years included a glowing water purifier last summer, as well as a pavilion made of skateboard scraps that was displayed in 2013.
