FINANCIAL DISTRICT — An employee of ratings agency Moody's was caught in a hoax by a man claiming he'd kill his son if he didn't wire thousands of dollars to Mexico City, police said.
The 48-year-old received a disturbing call at about 3 p.m. on Jan. 27, while at work inside his 7 World Trade Center office, from a man saying he had the victim's son, and demanding he wire $2,000 to Mexico City, police said.
The caller told the man "Unless you follow my instruction, I will kill your son," according to police reports.
The victim took out $2,000 from an ATM and wired the money to Mexico City via Western Union, police said.
Police were still investigating the hoax. No further information about the incident was immediately available.
