FORDHAM — A Fordham Prep high school student was fatally struck by a Metro-North train in the Bronx Monday afternoon, the second student to be killed on the tracks in less than a month, according to officials.

The victim, whose name was not released but who was identified as a student at Fordham Prep between ages 16 and 18, was hit about 3:30 p.m. at the Botanical Garden station by a train traveling northbound on the New Haven line, the MTA and school officials said.

He was the second Fordham Prep student to be killed by a Metro-North train in less than a month, following the death of sophomore Owen Kelly on the Sleepy Hollow's Philipse Manor station on Jan. 18, according to reports.

Trains were facing 60 minute delays and bypassing stops in The Bronx on the Harlem and New Haven lines, according to the MTA. Riders were advised to take a subway or bus as an alternative, which were being cross honoring Metro-North tickets.

Hudson Lines trains were also facing 30-minute delays because of congestion.

The FDNY and the MTA did not immediately provide details on the circumstances leading up to the incident.
