NEW YORK CITY — The New York Mets are ready for the 2016 season and their chance for another World Series run.
After a heart-breaking loss to the Kansas City Royals in game 5 last fall, the Mets have been making big moves in the off-season. The team signed Yoenis Cespedes for a reported $75 million deal. All that the Mets front office will confirm is that it's a three-year contract.
The Mets still have a lot of roster questions, but one thing is clear — the run to the playoffs starts with a clean slate this spring.
The Mets will start the season with a two-game series against the Royals on April 3 at 8:37 p.m.
The team then travels back home to Citi Field for the Mets home opener against the Philadelphia Phillies on April 8. First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m.
Baseball fans who just can't wait for the season to start should know that spring training is right around the corner. Pitchers and catchers report to the team's Port St. Lucie, Florida, facilities for their first workout on Feb. 19. The first full-team workout will be Feb. 26.
The Mets play their crosstown rivals in one series this season with games at both Citi Field and Yankee Stadium:
• Monday, Aug. 1 at 7:10 p.m. (home)
• Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 7:10 p.m.(home)
• Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 7:05 p.m. (at Yankee Stadium)
• Thursday, Aug. 4 at 7:05 p.m. (at Yankee Stadium)
