LOWER EAST SIDE — Essex Crossing will be home to a 55,000-square-foot medical facility, the site's developers announced Wednesday.

NYU Langone Medical Center has signed a 15-year lease to operate the Joan H. and Preston Robert Tisch Center at Essex Crossing, a three-floor facility which will offer urgent care and multi-specialty physician practices, according to developer Delancey Street Associates.

The Essex Crossing project, which is currently under construction, is expected to bring 1.9 million square feet of new residential, commercial and community space to nine blocks near the Williamsburg Bridge. The new medical center is scheduled to open in late 2018.

Confirmed retail tenants at Essex Crossing include Regal CinemasPlanet Fitness, and bowling alley and restaurant Splitsville Luxury Lanes, developers previously announced. Half of the 1,000 residential units planned for the development will be set aside for affordable housing.

The announcement comes as Delancey Street Associates is scheduled to hold a meeting with residents to discuss the project’s community impact, progress, and available construction jobs and training opportunities.

The Jan. 28 meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m at the Grand Street Settlement community room at 80 Pitt St., according to a flier posted on Community Board 3’s website.
