MANHATTAN — The man who randomly slashed a 71-year-old straphanger across the cheek Monday was caught on surveillance video tripping and falling on his face while trying to jump a turnstile to escape the scene.
The suspect, who'd been riding a Manhattan-bound D train since before the 79th Street stop in Bensonhurst, cut the woman as the train pulled into the Broadway-Lafayette Station about 6:50 a.m., sources said.
The suspect, who is about 25, calmly left the train, sources said.
Surveillance footage shows the man, wearing red pants, red shoes and a red hoodie under a black jacket, trying to run through a turnstile only to get his foot caught and trip.
The suspect, who is about 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds with brown eyes and black hair, had not been arrested as of Tuesday morning, police said.
Police released a sketch of the suspect. (NYPD)
The victim was treated at Bellevue Hospital, police said.
