Man Lies About Russian Roulette Game to Cover Up Neighbor's Death: Sources

By  Nikhita Venugopal and Rachel Holliday Smith | January 25, 2016 1:39pm

SUNSET PARK — A Sunset Park man fatally shot his neighbor in the head during the blizzard — then lied to investigators that the pair had been playing a game of Russian roulette, sources said.

Maciej Gorecki shot his neighbor Zdzislaw Golabek, 37, in the head while showing him his gun inside his apartment on 45th Street near Eighth Avenue just before 8 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Gorecki, 32, thought the gun was unloaded when he pointed it at Golabek's head and pulled the trigger, according to the New York Daily News.

Gorecki initially told police that the death was the result of a Russian roulette game, police sources said. But they soon figured out he was lying, they said.

Gorecki was arrested Sunday and arraigned on charges of manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. He was ordered held on $100,000 bail or $250,000 bond and is due back in court on Jan. 29, according to court records.
