GOVERNORS ISLAND — They may be covered in snow now — but it's time to reserve your playtime on Governors Island's picturesque sports fields.

The permit process for Little League, adult softball or soccer and other field sports is now open for Governors Island's two expansive ball fields, the island announced on its website.

The two natural turf fields, which opened for the first time in the summer of 2014, offer bleacher seating for 84 spectators and will be available during the island's public hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. Games can be scheduled at either 10 a.m. or 2 p.m., according to the website.

Summer programs will be able to run seven days a week on the island during its public season, between May 28 to Sept. 25.

The trust will give priority to youth leagues and official school leagues — and while applications are accepted on a rolling basis, Governors Island encourages teams to apply by March 1. The Trust for Governors Island will start announcing time allotments in March.

Those interested in reserving the space must pay a non-refundable $26 application fee — you can find the application here.

The island is also offering applications for permits for private events, including weddings. Fees vary — for further details, check out this page. Only wedding ceremonies, not receptions, are allowed on the island. Permits are $400, and allow for a maximum of 100 guests.
