UNION SQUARE — The L train resumed service Wednesday evening after a rail condition disrupted trains in Brooklyn and caused major delays along the line for the evening rush, according to the MTA.

Service resumed a little after 7 p.m. — about an hour and a half after the MTA reported no trains were running between Halsey Street and Broadway Junction.

The condition caused a crush of people at the Union Square station a little after 5:30 p.m., witnesses said.

Kellen Sears, 31, was trying to pick up his kids in Bed-Stuy when he got stuck at the station.

"It's a headache," Sears said. "It's bad. They spend a lot of money on a lot of stuff we can't see but there's no improvements."

Jasmine Niang, 14, was trying to get back to her home near First Avenue.

"I've never seen wall-to-wall people like this. But I've never seen anything like this on any train," Niang said. "This is really scary. I'm really freaked out. No one's moving, there's nowhere to go. It's claustrophobic."

The delays came after recent news about service possibly shutting down for several years between Manhattan and Brooklyn to repair tunnels damaged during Hurricane Sandy.

Kelsey Moran, 22, said she would most likely move if the tunnel is closed for repairs.

"I don't really know what else to do. This is bad enough," Moran said. "I can't imagine trying to take the J or the M. It's just not gonna work."
