GOWANUS — A 5-story boutique hotel coming to Union Street and Fourth Avenue will be a neighborhood "amenity" complete with a full-service restaurant and outdoor areas where guests and the public can eat and drink, the developers said in a letter to neighbors.
The team behind Gowanus Inn & Yard, slated to open later this year at 645-651 Union St., said the 76-room hotel will "turn dark vacant space into a well-lit and secure block," according to the letter, which was posted recently on Fourth Avenue.
The site where the Gowanus Inn & Yard is now rising was once a parking lot.
The announcement, signed by hotel partner Alec Shtromandel, informs neighbors that Community Board 6 will review Gowanus Inn & Yard's liquor license application at its Jan. 25 meeting.
Gowanus Inn & Yard will have a restaurant and bar in the cellar, and guests and the public will also be able to eat and drink outside in a first-floor courtyard and on the roof, according to the letter.
Shtromandel did not respond immediately to requests for comment on Wednesday.

Shtromandel also developed the Union Hotel on Degraw Street between Third and Fourth avenues.
Another partner in the Gowanus Inn & Yard, according to Capital New York, is Matt Abramcyk, the one-time operator of the Beatrice Inn nightclub, who more recently opened the TriBeCa restaurants Super Linda and Smith & Mills.
Last year he announced plans for another TriBeCa eatery at 385 Greenwich St.
Community Board 6 meets on Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Prospect Park YMCA, 357 Ninth St.
