TRIBECA — Local convenience store workers were robbed at knife point last week for $750, police said.

Police said a man walked into Ayubowan Grocery at about 11 p.m. on Jan. 12, took out a knife and demanded a cashier give up her gold ring. The woman refused, and the robber demanded cash instead.

The 61-year-old owner of the 103 Chambers St. store then cleared out the cash register, and gave the robber $750. The thief, who police describe as 5-foot-6 with brown hair, fled the store.

Police were still investigating the incident.

A store employee declined to comment.
