INWOOD — A gunman shot a 30-year-old man after waiting for his victim to emerge from a Post Avenue apartment building, police said.

Raymond Diaz, 23, of Inwood, waited inside a black jeep outside the victim's apartment on Post Avenue, near Academy Street, and then began shooting at him once he came out of the building at roughly 1:20 a.m. on Jan. 7, police said.

The victim was shot once in the thigh, and is likely to survive, according to authorities.

It wasn't immediately clear how long Diaz waited outside of the apartment.

The victim told police that he does not know Diaz, officials said.

Police described Diaz as standing 5-foot-4-inches and weighing roughly 180 pounds.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Det. Michael Rodriguez at (212) 927-0823 or Detective Borough Manhattan North at 212-477-7447.
