UPPER WEST SIDE — A 73-year-old man was badly injured when he was hit by a motorcyclist Thursday as he walked south across West 96th Street, police said.
The man, whose name has not been released, was walking south in the crosswalk on the east side of Amsterdam Avenue when he was hit by the driver of a Ducati motorcycle heading east across the intersection at 5:06 p.m., police said.

The 73-year-old suffered trauma to his head and was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, where he is in critical condition, officials said.

The motorcyclist, who stayed at the scene and whose age was not released, was also transported to St. Luke's, but did not have severe injuries, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests had been made in the case, police said.

While crashes and resulting injuries and deaths for pedestrians were down last year, the West 96th Street corridor remains an area of concern for police, Capt. Marlon Larin of the 24th Precinct reported at a December Community Board meeting.
