MIDTOWN — Expect delays on the B and D lines for the evening commute Thursday after the MTA had to completely halt all B service due to a broken rail in Midtown, officials said.

The rail broke at the 7th Avenue and 53rd Street stop at about 2:20 p.m., causing the B line to be suspended in both directions, the MTA said.

The rail was fixed and B train service restored with residual delays at about 3:24 p.m, the MTA said.

The broken rail also prompted delays on the D train, which was diverted to run on the C line from 59th Street to West Fourth Street and then via the F line to Coney Island. D train service was back to its usual route by 3:30 p.m., officials said.

The C, F and M lines were also affected due to the broken rail but should be back to normal, the MTA said.

Riders can check the MTA’s website for updates.
