MIDTOWN — A man who had his tickets to a Phish concert swiped at a bar ended up going to the show anyway — and a woman sitting in his seat told him she got her ticket from one of the pub's bartenders, police said.
The 40-year-old left Haymaker Bar and Kitchen, at 252 W. 29th St., with some friends on Dec. 30 around 7:15 p.m. when he realized he'd left an envelope with two tickets to the popular jam band's New Year's Eve concert at Madison Square Garden on a back room table, he told police.
He returned to the bar where he and his friends had been having dinner and drinks but discovered his envelope was gone.
The bar’s employees told him they hadn’t seen it, police said.
But the next day, after the man bought replacement tickets for $152, he showed up to the concert and said the woman sitting in his originally assigned seat told him a Haymaker bartender had given her a ticket to the show, police said.
The man told police he contacted the owner of the bar after the concert, and police said surveillance video from the bar showed one of the bartenders taking the envelope off the back table, removing the tickets and putting them in his pants pocket, the NYPD said.
Haymaker’s manager said Wednesday he couldn't comment on the incident because a police investigation was ongoing.
Police said they are still looking into the theft.
