GRANT CITY — A Hylan Boulevard catering hall shuttered after Hurricane Sandy will be demolished this year to make way for a big box store or shopping center.

The Renaissance catering hall at 2131 Hylan Blvd., which closed in 2013 after the owners said they couldn't bounce back from the storm, is slated to be demolished by the summer to make way for the new building, the Staten Island Advance first reported.

"There’s a lot of local interest, but our preference is to create a cohesive center with credit-rated tenants," said Tyler Bennett, senior vice president and partner of Winick Realty Group and leasing agent for the property.

"It's mainly been focusing on those kind of tenants."

Bennett said that — depending on the tenant that leases the spot — the catering hall could be replaced by a multi-store center or an 11,000-square foot space.
