YORKVILLE — A local preschool provider is bringing gymnastics, Spanish language classes and chess instruction for toddlers to East 94th Street this fall.

New York Kids Club is opening a 3,800-square-foot preschool and enrichment center in the ground floor space of The Chesapeake at 345 E. 94th St. near First Avenue, according to a spokeswoman for the school.

The preschool, which will serve infants and kids ages 2 to 4, will offer lessons in Spanish, gymnastics, cooking, art and music. Classes in chess, math, science and social studies will also be available for kids age 3 and 4.

The curriculum at the Kids Club, which has 10 other locations in the city, is updated regularly, according to Pam Wolf, who founded the preschool in 2001 on the Upper West Side.

Chess and Spanish lessons are brand new to the curriculum this year, she said.

"Every semester is different for us," Wolf said. "We follow trends in learning. It used to be yoga and cooking that were very popular. Now it's chess and science. We follow that and we're always offering what seems to be the most beneficial in educating young people."

The enrichment center, which serves children up to age 12, will offer gymnastics, tennis, chess and music classes, in addition to day camps.

Starting as infants, with help from their parents or guardians, students begin learning Spanish words and building upon their skills as they move up in age group.

Once they hit 2 years old, the students expand their vocabulary by learning based on themes like “family” and “animals,” according to the preschool’s website.

Learning the fundamentals of chess, like how to set up a chess board and the concept of the game, begins at age 3 and can continue through age 12.

Tuition ranges in price depending on age and frequency of attendance. Price for 2-year-olds attending five days a week, three hours a day is $19,670, according to the school's website. Packages for three days or two days a week are also available for $13,750 and $10,200, respectively.

The East 94th Street New York Kids Club is already accepting applications for fall 2016.
