WEST VILLAGE — A woman was sexually assaulted in her West Village apartment by a man who tricked her into opening her door by pretending to be a neighbor, police said.

The man was also captured on surveillance video following the woman for several blocks before she got home, police said.

The 23-year-old woman was at her home near West 12th Street and Greenwich Avenue about 3:25 a.m. on Jan. 3 when the man knocked on her door, saying he was her neighbor.

He asked if something was burning, and after she let him inside, he slapped and choked her, stripped her naked and forced her to perform oral sex on him, police said.

Police said he then took her cell phone and $250 in cash from her wallet and ran away.

The woman was treated and released from an area hospital, police said.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, 6 feet tall, with black hair and brown eyes.

Police have released a sketch and a still from surveillance video in the hopes of tracking him down.

Anyone with information on the man or regarding the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477). All calls are confidential.
