EAST VILLAGE — One of the neighborhood’s longest sock purveyors is closing later this month, according to reports.

The Sock Man, located at 27 St. Marks Place, plans to pack up its varied selection of socks and hosiery in about two weeks after 33 years in business, according to EV Grieve, which first wrote about the closure.

A reader told Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York the closure is due to real estate issues, although the owner, Marty Rosen, plans to look for a new location while continuing the online store.

Rosen, who opened the store in 1983, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. An employee who answered the phone declined to comment because she was not authorized to talk about the news, she said.

The Sock Man is the latest business to leave St. Marks Place after decades on the street. Late last year, Trash and Vaudeville decided to relocate the punk fashion mecca to East 7th Street, while longtime record store St. Marks Sounds held its final sale, according to EV Grieve.
