WOODHAVEN - The boyfriend of a 19-year-old woman found dead in her bed on New Year's Day was arrested for murder Tuesday, police said.
Fabian Maliza, 24, was charged with two counts of murder a day after being questioned in the death of Joceline Romo, the NYPD said.
Romo was found unresponsive and face down in their shared apartment on 86th Street between 91st and Atlantic Avenues at 10:45 p.m., police said. She later died at the scene, becoming the city's first homicide of 2016.
Although authorities initially said Romo showed no signs of trauma, the medical examiner found she died from "homicidal violence," including blunt force trauma to the head and compression of the neck, ME spokeswoman Julie Bolcer said Monday.
