MOUNT HOPE — A man found dead in an apartment fire in The Bronx two months ago had been strangled, the city's Medical Examiner said this week.

Keith Alexander, 53, who was found inside his apartment at 1758 Weeks Ave. after a fire was reported there on Oct. 29, died as a result of asphyxia due to neck compression, according to the medical examiner’s office, which ruled the death a homicide.

Alexander had been taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The fire was reported at 8:08 p.m. and took 60 firefighters nearly an hour to extinguish it, the FDNY said at the time.

Another unidentified person, who was in the apartment at the time of the fire, was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition, fire officials said.

Police said no arrests have been made and that the investigation was ongoing.

The cause of the fire was unknown. Fire officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
