VIDEO: Man Beaten and Robbed on Midwood Street, Police Say

By Aidan Gardiner | December 29, 2015 10:09am

BROOKLYN — Officials are offering $4,000 for information about two men who knocked a man to the ground and stole his wallet in a beating caught on dramatic video early Monday morning.

Local politicians put up the cash hours after they said the pair punched a 55-year-old man near 809 Avenue M, near East Eighth Street, about 12:48 a.m., according to NYPD officials.

In video of the incident published by JPUpdates, one of the hooded attackers appears to shove the victim to the ground, knocking his head against a parked car, before repeatedly punching him in the face and rummaging through his pockets.

The second suspect joined the attacker and the two took the victim's wallet and credit cards before fleeing the scene, police said.

The victim was treated at Maimonides Medical Center for scratches and bruises to his head, knees and hands, police said.

Police also released photos of the pair getting out of a black car and walking down the street.

One suspect wore a dark jacket with stripes down the arm and matching pants, while the other wore a gray hoodie with dark pants.

Local politicians held a press conference at the scene Monday to condemn the attackers and offer a reward for information leading to their capture.

"It is hearbreaking that, especially during this holiday season, outrageous crimes like this are happening in our very own backyard," said Councilman David Greenfield, who put up $1,000 toward the reward.

The incident is not being treated as a hate crime, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
