BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A former beer store on Bedford Avenue is set to be demolished to make way for a six-story, 28-unit apartment building, city records show.

Development company Foster Equities will build rentals, retail and offices at 322 Gates Ave., at the corner of Bedford Avenue, according to a Foster Equities representative.

The residence will replace the Bedford Beer & Soda Dist. one-story building which was sold in March to 322 Gates LLC for $4.5 million. The distributor has since relocated.

Demolition plans were approved in September and an application for the new, mixed-use building was filed on Dec. 22, records show.

A total of 22,272 square feet is proposed, with 991 square feet dedicated to commercial space, according to proposed plans.

There will be 14 spots for indoor parking, as well as room for bicycle storage. Permits detail the second through fifth floors housing six units each, with the top floor having four apartments and a common recreation space.

Local artists will be able to exhibit their work in the lobby which will feature rotating art installations, a Foster Equities representative added.

The building will be designed by Alexander Zhitnik of Z Architecture, according to the application.
