MARINERS HARBOR — A Queens teen smacked a student in the face with a combination lock on a Staten Island street early this month, prosecutors said.

On Dec. 3, Jelisa Sarmiento, 17, of Briarwood, approached the 19-year-old female victim at the corner of Cable Way and South Avenue at about 3:30 p.m., grabbed her hair then started to punch her in the face repeatedly, prosecutors said.

Sarmiento then hit the victim several times in the face with a lock and stole her purse which had her cellphone, school books, cash, a wallet, Metro Card, school ID, phone charger and scarf in it, prosecutors said.

She was arrested on Dec. 17 for the attack and charged with assault, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and harassment at her arraignment, the Staten Island District Attorney's office said.

Sarmiento pleaded guilty to the charges on Tuesday and is due to be sentenced on Feb. 23, according to online court records.

She was also arrested in January and charged with criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny, court records show.

Her lawyer did not immediately respond to request for comment.
