YORKVILLE — A man waving a knife robbed a convenience store on East 80th Street last week, making off with cash and a pack of cigarettes, according to the NYPD.

The suspect entered Everest Convenience Store, at 230 E. 80th St. near Second Avenue, at 9:19 p.m. on Dec. 15, threatened a manager with a knife, and took off with a plastic bag filled with $350 cash and cigarettes, police said.

The manager, 32-year-old Sanjay Shrestha, was watching a movie on his phone when the suspect walked in and "it was too late because he got the knife out already," Shrestha told DNAinfo New York.

"'I'm not going to hurt you, just give me the money,'" Shrestha remembered the thief saying.

A man and a woman are suspects in a robbery of the Everest Convenience Store on Dec. 15, police said.

Shortly after the robbery, the suspect is caught on camera smiling at a nearby Starbucks with a woman, who police also identify as a suspect in the incident, according to officials.

In the video, the man is seen wearing a dark-colored jacket, white T-shirt and baseball cap, and the woman is wearing a black backpack and multi-colored jacket, according to authorities.

This is the second time Shrestha's shop has been robbed, he said. The first robbery occurred in September 2013 when two men came into the store with a gun and took $2,000 in cash, he said.

"This is a normal thing," he said.

"If you keep on giving money they keep on coming and you never know what kind of guys they are," he continued. "But this happens to convenience stores everywhere. You just have to protect yourself."

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
