UPPER WEST SIDE — Police have arrested a suspect they believe stole nearly $1,000 in cash from older residents at a local nursing home and rehabilitation center, the NYPD said.

The individual, who police did not immediately identify, was arrested in connection with one theft at The Riverside at 150 Riverside Dr., but police believe the suspect is behind all six thefts there between Oct. 3 and Nov. 6, the NYPD said.

The thefts, which occurred in the rooms of residents between 59 and 82 years old, included stealing $15 in cash twice from two separate people; stealing $265 in cash from a third person; $100 in cash from another; $509 from a fifth victim; and a key ring with keys from the sixth person, police said.

Capt. Marlon Larin, commanding officer of the 24th Precinct, had called the thefts "shameful" and "reprehensible."

Police did not say whether the suspect was an employee of The Riverside, as was their initial suspicion. It was not clear what the individual had been charged with.

The Riverside did not immediately return a request for comment.
