WILLIAMSBURG — An assailant ran up to a man on the street, cursed him, then pummeled him from behind with a metal bat, splitting open his head, police said.

The attack occurred on Dec. 9 just before 4 p.m. on the sidewalk near the intersection of Hooper Street and Broadway, according to police.

The assailant yelled a slur in Spanish that roughly translates to "c--ksucker," before bashing the 23-year-old victim on the head, according to authorities.

The victim then fell to the sidewalk and was later taken to the hospital, though he was expected to survive the attack, police said.

The attacker had a ponytail and was wearing white pants at the time of the incident, authorities said.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday, police officials confirmed.
