Van Wyck Crash Kills Connecticut Man, Snarls Traffic for Hours

QUEENS — A Connecticut man was killed when his speeding car slammed into a tractor-trailer early Wednesday morning on the Van Wyck Expressway in Forest Hills, police said.

The crash happened just before 5 a.m. near Jewel Avenue, authorities said.

Tarik Williamson, 45, of Waterbury, Conn., was speeding when his 2012 Acura collided with the rear of the 2005 Kenworth tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes, officials said.

Williamson was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The 53-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured and remained at the scene, according to the NYPD.

There were no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

According to published reports, the expressway remained closed for hours but reopened around 8:30 a.m.
