CHELSEA — A drunk taxi passenger frustrated with traffic was arrested after punching his cabdriver and then biting a man who tried to stop the attack, police said.

The 46-year-old cabdriver was driving the 29-year-old passenger to Grand Central around midnight on Dec. 10 when the rider, who was visibly drunk, got upset because they were stuck in traffic, according to the NYPD.

While the car was stopped at the southwest corner of West 33rd Street and 10th Ave., the passenger got out of the cab, grabbed the driver, threw him to the ground and punched him, leaving the driver with scratches and bloody fingers, police said.

A 29-year-old man who witnessed the attack tried to stop the passenger, but the man bit his right wrist, the NYPD said.

When police showed up, the passenger resisted arrest by waving his arms to keep from being handcuffed, the NYPD said.

The passenger, whose name was not released by police, was arrested and charged with assault.

Police did not say whether the taxi was a yellow cab or a black car.
