MIDTOWN SOUTH — For the cost of a MetroCard swipe, straphangers can ride on a vintage train along the M line Sundays until the end of December.

On Dec. 13, 20 and 27, the MTA is putting an eight-car train from the 1930s back into commission.

Passengers can board the train along lines with weekday M service at stations including 47-50 Sts/Rockefeller Center, 42nd Street-Bryant Park and 34th Street Street Herald Square.

“R1/9 cars, known as ‘City-Cars,’ have rattan seats, ceiling fans, incandescent light bulbs and roll signs for passenger information,” the MTA said.

Although the cars were retired by the MTA in 1977, they served as a model for the first modern subway cars, senior vice president of subways Joe Leader said.

The eight-car trains, which the city stopped using in 1977, have features like rattan seats, ceiling fans and incandescent light bulbs.

The cars will make local stops between Queens Plaza and the 2nd Ave station from 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., the MTA said.

In addition to the antique trains, the MTA will release a fleet of vintage buses onto the streets until December 18.

The buses will run along the M42 route during the daytime on weekdays, weather permitting, the MTA said.

A full schedule for the vintage trains and buses can be found on the MTA's website.

Passengers that miss the buses can still catch a glimpse of them on display at Herald Square, Union Square and the Circle Line Terminal.
