Police Investigate Man's Claim He Was Shot in Back on Jamaica Street

QUEENS — Police are investigating a man's claim that he was shot on a Jamaica street after he showed up at a hospital with a gunshot wound to his back, but didn't call 911.

The 37-year old man was dropped off at Queens General Hospital by his girlfriend on Dec. 3, around 1:15 a.m., said Captain Joe Seminara at a 103rd Precinct Community Council meeting earlier this week.

The man, whose name has not been released, said that he was shot at the intersection of 175th Street and 88th Avenue.

But investigators have not been able to recover any evidence that would confirm the shooting, Seminara said.

“Normally, if someone shoots a gun in a residential area, someone is going to call 911,” Seminara said. “But we haven’t uncovered any 911 calls for shots being fired at that location.”

Investigators also didn’t find any ballistic evidence at the scene or any surveillance footage that would verify the man’s claim.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
