LOWER EAST SIDE — A burglar broke into a safe inside a 25-year-old woman’s apartment, stealing $5,000 in cash and jewelry, police said.

The woman returned to her Delancey Street home at the Baruch Houses around 8 p.m. on Dec. 6 and found the safe open and empty, according to the NYPD.

The burglar stole the cash, police said, as well a yellow and gray wedding band, three other rings and a silver chain with a diamond pendant worth $1,000.

Police said the there was no forcible entry on the apartment door and the safe’s key box was operable. The woman believed an ex-boyfriend might have copied her keys before they broke up, according to the NYPD.
