BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Get into the holiday spirit this week at Fulton Park’s holiday tree lighting.

The 16th annual celebration at the park’s east side near Fulton Street and Stuyvesant Avenue kicks off Friday with the lighting of a 23-foot Balsam Fir, followed by gift-giving at a local church, according to organizers.

The Stuyvesant Heights Parents Association hosts the event for the second year in the row, following in the footsteps of Akwaaba Mansion, The Shops of Lewis Avenue, and The Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant, which put on the festivities for the first 14 years.

After the ceremony at the park, attendees can continue to St. Philip’s Church at 265 Decatur St. near Lewis Avenue for live music, food, entertainment, and giveaways.

Young musicians and singers from the Noel Pointer Foundation and Bridge Street AME Church will perform, along with local actor Michael Early, organizers said.

Children ages 12 and under will receive free gifts of toys and books, and Santa is expected attend for photos.

The Fulton Park Tree Lighting will take place on Friday, Dec. 11 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Fulton Park, and later at St. Philip’s Church, 265 Decatur St.
