LONG ISLAND CITY — The city will hold a public meeting next week to get community input on a plan to reconstruct streets in large section of Hunters Point and Court Square.

The Long Island City/Hunters Point Street Reconstruction project will tackle infrastructure, safety and streetscape improvements for an area bound roughly by 44th Drive, Jackson Avenue, 5th Street and Borden Avenue.

The city's Department of Transportation and Department of Design and Construction will host a community workshop with City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer on Dec. 9 to let the public weigh in on what kind of changes they'd like the project to include, according to the agencies.

"Major goals of the project will be to improve pedestrian, vehicle and bicycle safety and mobility, as well as enhance streetscape design throughout your neighborhood," Van Bramer wrote in a Facebook description of the event.

The meeting will include an overview of the project, and will then have participants break into groups to identify issues they'd like to see fixed and brainstorm possible solutions, according to a flier.

Preliminary plans for the project will be drawn up this summer, with construction to start after that, according to the DOT.

The community workshop will take place Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the 3rd Floor of CUNY School of Law, at 2 Court Square in Long Island City.
