EMERSON HILL — A go-kart facility on Staten Island could get a new operator.

The Parks Department put out a Request for Proposal (RFP) on Tuesday to run the outdoor amusement park at 215 Schmidts Lane, currently Staten Island Go-Karts, and make numerous improvements.

The fixes would include repairing the entire go-kart track and renovating the mini-golf course, according to a spokeswoman for the agency.

The existing agreement to run Staten Island Go-Karts, which has operated for nearly 20 years, expires in July 2016. The Parks Department does not expect the facility to close if a new operator is selected.

"Current agreement is expiring on July 31, 2016, and as agreements expire we always issue new RFPs," said agency spokeswoman Tara Deighan. "The current concessionaire may submit a new proposal."

The RFP does not call for any new buildings or attractions to be added to the site — which includes go-karts, batting cages, mini-golf and a roller-hockey rink — but respondents can suggest new ones in their proposals, Deighan said.

Aside from upgrading the mini-golf course and go-kart track, the RFP also calls for repairs to the fencing around the site and batting cages, removing trailers, fixing roofs on the snack bar and ticket booth, paving the parking lot and adding striping for handicap spaces, replacing the heating and A/C units with energy efficient ones, and switching to LED lights.

The owner of Staten Island Go-Karts, Michael Mancusi, could not be reached for comment.

The deadline to submit a proposal is Jan. 15, 2016.
