QUEENS — Officials will hold a public meeting this Wednesday to discuss a variety of transportation issues in downtown Jamaica and to work out a plan to improve travel in one of the most congested and populated areas in the borough, according to the Department of Transportation.

The public forum, which will also include a workshop, is open to all residents as well as local business and property owners.

Attendees will get a chance to discuss and share their concerns as well as suggestions about pedestrian safety, congestion and parking issues in the area, stretching between Union Turnpike and Linden Boulevard and between 193rd Street/Farmers Boulevard and 130th Street.

The agency will take the feedback and comments from the meeting and use them to design a plan to address transportation issues and improve travel in downtown Jamaica, the agency said.

The meeting is one of several forums planned for the area by the DOT in the near future.

Most crashes in the borough are concentrated around several densely populated areas, including Jackson Heights, Flushing and Jamaica, according to the DOT, which said earlier this year that it would work to make some of the most dangerous streets and intersections in Queens safer for pedestrians.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harvest Room, at 90-40 160th Street in Jamaica.
