EAST HARLEM — East 115th Street turned into the Wild West on Thanksgiving Day when eight men had a shootout that sent one innocent bystander to the hospital.

A group of five men hid behind a car on the north side of 115th Street across the street from the Jefferson Houses and shot at a group of three men at the public housing development about 2:20 p.m., according to the NYPD.

The three men from the Jefferson Houses returned fire, police said.

A 23-year-old man who was walking along 115th Street was shot in the leg near his groin. His friends were able to take him to Harlem Hospital, police said.

After exchanging gunfire, the group of five men ran west toward Third Avenue. The group of three ran into a building in the Jefferson Houses.

It is not immediately clear how many shots were fired. Officers recovered two shell casings on the north side of 115th Street, according to the NYPD.

No arrests have been made.
