MORRISANIA — A Bronx teenager was shot in the butt on Wednesday, according to the NYPD.

The 16-year-old was walking by East 166th Street and College Avenue about 8:18 p.m. when the bullet hit him, police said. He was taken to Lincoln Hospital for treatment and has been released.

Officers believe the victim was the intended target of the shooting, but they are still trying to figure out the motive for the attack.

Video of the shooting shows the suspect, dressed in a white sweatshirt, blue jeans and baseball hat, take out a gun and fire it before quickly running away down the sidewalk.

The assault happened in the 44th Precinct, where shooting victims and incidents are both up sharply this year compared to last.

The precinct had seen 52 victims and 42 incidents as of Nov. 22, compared to 39 and 33 at that point in 2014, respectively.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577.
