NEW YORK CITY — This Thanksgiving is expected to be nearly 10 degrees warmer than average — and more than 20 degrees balmier than Turkey Day last year, meteorologists from the National Weather Service said.

After a chilly start to the week, Thanksgiving day will be partly sunny with a high of 59 degrees, or nine degrees warmer than average Thanksgiving temperatures for New York City, according to the NWS.

Friday will be even warmer, with a high of 63 degrees and blue skies, forecasters said.

NWS meteorologist Carlie Buccola suggested that those attending Thursday's Thanksgiving Day Parade should still dress warmly, but not with as many layers as in years past.

"I would still bundle up," Buccola said. "But at least it won't be freezing like it has in the past."

Last year's Thanksgiving Day brought a high temperature of just 38 degrees and a dusting of snow, according to the NWS.

This November is on its way to becoming the warmest on record, with an average so far of 60.9 degrees.

The previous record was set in 1931, when the average for November was 59.9 degrees.
