HELL'S KITCHEN — The Speedway gas station at the corner of Tenth Avenue and 44th Street is about to be paved over to make room for a luxury condo, officials said.

The gas station, which has been there as long as neighbors can recall and was a Hess Station until last year, is the latest on the list of Hell's Kitchen establishments that will be flattened to make way for condos.

The Speedway lot will be sold to the Chinese firm Xinyuan Real Estate, a worker there confirmed. A spokeswoman for Speedway also confirmed that the company was selling the lot.

Xinyuan plans on converting the 100,000-square-foot site at 501-505 W. 44th St. into condos, and will pay around $60 million for the property, the Real Deal reported.

On Nov. 9, the Department of Buildings granted a permit to build up a construction fence. A day later, permits were approved to remove the site's four 10,000-gallon fuel storage tanks, according to records.

Neighbors on social media pointed out the accelerated pace of development on the West Side that seems to gain momentum each day.
