QUEENS — A man was fatally struck by an E train in Forest Hills early Saturday morning while walking on the subway tracks, police said.

The victim, 58, was approximately 400 feet inside a tunnel between the Forest Hills-71st Avenue and 75th Avenue stations when he was hit by the northbound E train about 3:15 a.m., according to the MTA.

It was not clear why he was on the tracks, police and the MTA said Monday.

The man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The victim was on his way from work to his Queens Village home when he was struck, according to reports

An investigation is ongoing, police officials said.
