35-Year-Old Skater's Bag Stolen from Park Slope Playground, Police Say

PARK SLOPE — A 35-year-old man had his backpack stolen while he was skateboarding at a Park Slope skate park on a Tuesday afternoon, according to a police report.

The man put his bag on the ground while he was skateboarding at 2 p.m. on Nov. 3 at the Washington Park Skate Park on Fifth Street and Fifth Avenue. After about 20 minutes,  the man looked over and realized his bag had been stolen, according to the report.

The brightly colored backpack contained the man's iPhone, American Express and Visa credit cards and driver's license, according to the report.

Other notable crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following, with details drawn from police reports:

► A 64-year-old man had his wallet and iPhone stolen while he was in the emergency room at New York Methodist Hospital on Nov 6 at 11 a.m. The stolen valuables included the man's health insurance cards, credit cards and driver's license. A hospital spokeswoman said patients are advised not to keep valuables or large amounts of cash in their hospital rooms.

► A $9,500 lithograph titled "Hopi with Manta" by the artist T.C. Cannon was stolen during a 37-year-old woman's move from Boerum Hill to Park Slope. The move happened Sept. 20 and the woman reported the theft Nov. 2.

► Two women beat a 29-year-old man at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center subway station at 3:40 a.m. on Nov 8, police said.. One of the women used her belt to hit the man and the other punched him and scratched him.

► A 54-year-old employee at Sunshine Best Body Work had her purse stolen at the spa Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. The purse contained $450 in cash and the thief used the employee's credit cards to buy items on the Macy's website.

► A teen boy stole a 24-year-old woman’s backpack out of the lobby of the nonprofit Dance Wave at 45 Fourth Ave. on Nov. 5 at 11:30 a.m. The victim's coworker searched the area and found the backpack, without the victim's wallet, near Dean Street and Fifth Ave.

► Thieves stole $5,400 worth of electric cables from an underground transformer near 500 Fourth Ave. sometime between Sept. 24 and Nov. 5.

► A thief snatched an iPhone 6S out an 18-year-old boy's hand at the Union Street and Fourth Avenue R train subway station Nov. 8 at 3:15 p.m.

► A 2011 Ducati motorcycle worth $7,500 was stolen from Union Street near Fifth Avenue on Nov. 4.

Overall in the 78th Precinct, major crimes have increased 3.33 percent this year compared to the same period in 2014, according to the most recent statistics from the NYPD.
